The Evening Standard today announces the appointment of James White as its new Commercial Director, who will begin in the role with immediate effect.

In a newly created role, James will be responsible for all revenue lines across the multi-platform Standard news brand, read by 2.5 million adults daily. He will report directly into Mike Soutar, who was appointed Chief Executive in September. James will be working closely with Independent CDRO Andrew Morley.

James has played a key role in the success of the business. He joined The Evening Standard in 2006 as Agency Sales Executive and was promoted most recently to Chief Trading Officer. Previous to this, he worked at both The Scotsman and The Independent.

“I am delighted to appoint James to this critical role. In a strong field of candidates James was outstanding. He is a respected and popular executive who has enduring relationships with our most important clients and agencies. The fact that he is an internal appointment speaks not just of his qualities as a candidate but also of the extraordinary talent, strength and depth of expertise we have at The Evening Standard.”
